As this Island Packet article indicates, the trustee for the resort is very close to securing a buyer. This is of course welcome news - what would you like to see the new owner first do? My choice is sand, and a lot of it along the beach next to the 17th and 18th holes of the Melrose golf course. At high tide these days, the salt water comes onto the course, which hurts not just the grass, but is a metaphor for the distress the island has been experiencing. What's your opinion?

My thanks to David Hellmuth, DI resident, who reminded me we had not yet activated the blog on our web site. Anyways, I'm doing a stream of consciousness thing here, just trying to come up with something as I write. Daufuskie Island is alive and well these days, especially when one considers the current global economic climate. The Melrose Resort continues to operate most of its amenities while it seeks a new buyer, Freeport Marina, Marshside Mama's and the newest dining spot, the Dirt Road Diner, are enjoying decent crowds.
I thought we would use this first post as an invitation to anyone to weigh in on what they think is going well/not so well on the island. I'm interested in starting some discussion, not just smiley/happy I'm OK you're OK isn't everything just grand stuff. Despite the positive tone of the first paragraph, I realize there are issues in the community that need to be addressed. Transportation would probably be #1 I think. So by all means, weigh in below.
